Best place to see Aurora?
Hi, Sometime between 1st Dec and 14th Jan of 07/08 I am hoping to travel somewhere close to Europe to try and see the Northern Lights. Can anyone recommend a place to go and a reasonable minimum duration of trip to maximize my chances of seeing them? Much Obliged, Rang Thanks for that last answer, but I should probably say that I am on rather a tight budget.

Norway - The Northern Lights Cruise Trip http://www.fjordtravel.no/tours/winter/northern_lights/northern_lights_cruise.html A cruise ship gets you away from the city lights that reduce the Northern Lights visibility.
2 :
I would also say Norway, but it can be an expensive trip :-/....however, you do not even need to take a cruise, really. In any small town north of Trondheim, you can see them at the time of year that you will be traveling:). Good luck!

About Should the government or Area 51 expose the truth to us about what has really been going on
Should the government or Area 51 expose the truth to us about what has really been going on?
Area 51 is situated in the southwestern portion of Lincoln County in southern Nevada in the western United States. A large military airfield is situated at its center. This center is known as the most secretive places in the world. Although, the base's primary purpose as explained by the authorities is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems, there are thousands of people who do not believe this story. The intense secrecy surrounding the base, the very existence of which the US Government barely acknowledges, together with reports of unusual phenomena has led it to become the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and UFO folklore. There are many stories circulating around on Area 51 - most of them are about UFOs and aliens. I have tried to compile some of the unconventional activities claimed to be underway at Area 51. I have also included some supposed proofs in favor of these claims. Let me know if I have left some other ideas out of this hub. 11 FAMOUS AREA 51 FOLKLORE 1. Alien spacecraft storage: Storage, examination, and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft 2. Study of aliens: Examination of dead aliens that came in UFOs and interrogation of living aliens 3. Manufacture of aircraft based on alien technology 4. Meetings or joint undertakings with extraterrestrials 5. Energy weapons: Development of exotic energy weapons said to be many times deadlier 6. Weather control: Established means of weather control or experiments undergoing over it 7. Time travel: Establishedmeans of time travel ordevelopment of time travel technology 8. Aurora aircraft: Development of unusual and exotic propulsion systems related to the Aurora Aircraft Program (a cutting age spy plane) 9. Politics and secret society: Activities related to a supposed shadowy one world government and/or the Majestic Twelve organization (A secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, supposedly formed in 1947 by an executive order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman to investigate UFO activity) 10. Simulation of moon's environment: In 2000-2001, Fox Television broadcast a show about Apollo moon landing hoax accusations, in which it was suggested that the entire moon landing in 1969 was a hoax and was filmed in parts of Area 51 11. Misdirection attempt: During the mid 1990s, the most secret work previously done in Area 51 was quietly moved to other facilities and the continued secrecy around is largely a successful attempt at misdirection "PROOFS" SUPPORTING THESE CLAIMS 1. In 1989, Bob Lazar claimed that he had worked at a facility at Papoose Lake (which he called S-4) on such a U.S. Government flying saucer 2. The 1996 documentary Dreamland directed by Bruce Burgess included an interview with a 71 year old mechanical engineer who claimed to be a former employee at Area 51 during the 1950s, working on a "flying disc simulator" built to train US Pilots, based on a disc originating from a crashed extraterrestrial craft. During his career at Area 51 he claimed to have worked with an extraterrestrial being whose name was "J-Rod", described as a telepathic translator 3. Dan Burisch (real name, Dan Crain) claims to have worked on cloning alien viruses at Area 51, also with the alien "J-Rod" 4. In July 1996, a man named "Victor" announced on Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM radio show that he had a videotape of an alien interrogation which had taken place in Area 51. He claimed that he had made a copy of the tape during a scheduled transfer of analogue videotape files on the base into digital form, and had then smuggled the copy out of Area 51. The video appears to show the head of an alien creature in a dark interrogation room, allegedly using telepathy to communicate with military personnel and scientists. The footage was eventually included in a video documentary entitled Area 51: The Alien Interview

There's no real hard evidence, one man saying he's seen an alien isn't enough. It's obvious there lying just to get attention. and the tape could of easily been faked. Tbh...I don't think it matters wha's going on there, they're obviously not going to let 'the secret' out as it could cause controversy and panic if the stories are true.
3 :
They have been telling the truth! Nobody is listening! EVERYONE JUST HEARS WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR.
4 :
I find American secrecy, corruption and conspiracies exhausting. The paranoia must take away from living a happy life. (As well as seeing all other countries as needing to be converted to the American way of life) How do you ever rest?
5 :
If all these things are going on there I personally WANT them to keep it quiet. Can you imagine the mass hysteria if the general public found out these things were true. Think about all the duct tape that was bought after 9/11. I agree, level heading thinking people would like to know the truth but not everyone IS level headed. I also would prefer that if our country is developing weapons in area 51 whether they are trying to mimic alien aircraft or not, I don't want the whole world to know what we're up to. What kind of security would that be if everyone knew how we built our weapons?
6 :
Bob Lazar is a frigging loon. All there has ever been at Area 51 is advanced conventional weapons systems in the early stages of their development and testing, high tech to be sure, but no aliens, no flying saucers, no secret viruses.
7 :
The lure into area 51is a magnetic field much like the hotel California, are you certain you want to know?
8 :
No they shouldn't. Why? Because while a person is intelligent and rational, people are stupid and their fear of the unknown/inability to understand certain things makes them quick to panic, so the result would be mass hysteria, civil unrest and social breakdown. If you were the government would you risk that just so some basement dwelling obsessives can have their curiosity satisfied? No, of course not.
9 :
It's all an urban myth. Except for the flying saucer, it might be possible the US Gov't has developed sumthin like that... I mean, Nazi Germany successfully developed a prototype flying saucer without being able to use it =/ so why not
10 :
I have decided one thing for sure, if this secret place and secret experiments exist then it is operating totally devoid of any contact with Washington D.C. Those loons in Congress could never keep a secret or resist "making a buck" on some secret video. It is just inconceivable to me that an organization of clandestine operations could exist with their knowledge.
11 :
Government tell the truth? Are you kidding?
12 :
How? Look in the real world. Decode this lyrics " I can see clearly now" "Say you say me" "Knowing me knowing you" Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49 What do you think?
13 :
As much as i would want to believe in this, the true evidence is lacking. The government has issued official documents under the freedom of information act stating the "alien" connection between area 51. Was a top secret experimental air craft testing ground. These documents state that the smoke and mirror cover of "UFOs" was a good cover to hide the actual top secret military air craft being built at that facility. Those reports were used as disinformation to discredit the actual work being done. A secret like that could never be contained by any government especially in this day and age of computer enhancement. Personally I do believe that there are alien life out there but I doubt we have ever made actual contact with them.

Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights in 2008. Where to see it?
I'm hoping to see the Northern Lights in 2008. I live around San Francisco, California. Where are some places that I could travel to experience them? And what time of year would I need to go?

The Auroras are associated with solar activity and are more prominent at the more notherly lattitudes (or southerly in the southern hemisphere). A good resource for tracking them is http://www.spaceweather.com Norway, Sweden, Canada, Siberia and Alaska are some of the more prime locations (Greenland and Iceland and Finland too) but they are dependent on solar activity, unfortunately the sun is in a minimal activity phase. There are some scientists who believe it is starting to come out of solar minimum phase but its still not clear if it is or not. With very large solar flares or coronal mass ejections (CME's) there are greater auroral activity including the ability to see them at lower lattitudes. EDIT: All the Northern US states will have auroras visible, but the more north you go, the more brilliant and varied they become. Dark skies are also a must as some auroras are too faint to be seen near urban areas because of the light pollution. September/October and March/April are often reported to be the best times of the year to see auroras, but they can occur at anytime of the year. Here's a link to the gallery at SpaceWeather http://www.spaceweather.com/aurora/gallery.html
2 :
The states bordering Canada regularly see the Northern Lights. The auroras are fully dependant on solar activity and time of the year does not matter. Moon phase and proximity to light pollution does affect how visible the Northern Lights are so go outside during a New Moon and be far away from city lights. I see them often on clear nights from my home in Minnesota.

About Aurora Borealis Wedding
Aurora Borealis Wedding ?
Does anyone know of a good travel agency or wedding planner in Alaska or Iceland that would be able to help my fiance and I plan/book a cruise and wedding where the aurora borealis would be. He wants to get married "under" it basically. Thanks in advance :)

Nice concept! Unfortunatly, Aurora Borealis is rather an sporadic event at nature's wish and cannot be "scheduled". It's like planning a wedding around the occurrence of a rainbow. You won't see this in Alaska, but rather the ARTIC islands of Canada an the higher latitudes of Antartica in South America. It's occurence is rather rare and magnetic fields in combination of moisture and other factor may influence it, but there is no way of predicting it. Likely occurence is around September/October and March/April in the poles. Good luck

About Is it possible to travel from Olongapo City ...

Good luck
